NSR Oslo, Norway seeks head coach to lead the development of the club’s junior and senior racing squads.

NSR is a leading rowing club in Norway, with a history dating back as far as 1897. The club has a main clubhouse in the center of Oslo, with additional training facilities on the national arena some 30 kilometers outside of the city centre. The club has many proud achievements to look back at, lately with 3 qualified rowers for the national team at the Paris Olympics. The club has about 500 members in total across all disciplines and levels of the sport.

We are looking for an experienced rowing coach, preferably with international experience. The position will play a key role in developing the club athletically. With approx 100 race rowers spread out on different age groups, the head coach will receive assistance from an assistant coach with a planned permanent position of approx 30%, along with younger but experienced rowers who take part in the development of the younger age groups and are paid by the hour. The head coach will develop and execute on training programs suitable for the different age and gender groups, initiate and develop sculling and sweeping teams, and be the club’s main representative and leader at national regattas.

The head coach takes part and drives new investment decisions on development of the boat park and reports to the board at the club. The head coach will participate in developing a sustainable recruitment plan for new rowers to the club. 

The position is proposed at 60% or 22,5 hours per week on average. The candidate should expect peak seasons, with Norway’s race schedule typically extending from early May to approximately 20th of June and again from mid August to the end of September.

The salary is set at NOK 400.000 (approx. €33.700 or £28.200) for the right candidate.

Key requirements

  • Have previous competitive rowing or coxing experience (can include college rowing).
  • Have coaching experience
  • Embrace the challenge and freedom of taking on a leadership role in an ambitious club.
  • Embody a coaching philosophy that is both performance-driven and inclusive of all rowers and is able to vary training rigour for boats of different levels.
  • Understand the effects of rigging and be able to communicate these.
